Research and Development

The goals of LinguaPalooza are:

  1. Create an extracurricular language learning program to teach and foster self-regulated lifelong learning skills and guide learners to use their language in the real world

  1. Create a sustainable program that can be repeated year after year

  2. Create an adaptable program that can provide short- and long-term research opportunities to students and faculty

Results from Initial Launch (2022-2023)

LinguaPalooza was initially developed in Fall of 2022 as an internal program to meet the goals of the Center for Language Studies. A small pilot program was run that semester followed by a full contest in Winter 2023. We saw positive indicators in student reflections for development of self-regulated learning habits, growth towards lifelong language learning, building of connections with target language speakers, as well as increase in willingness to communicate and increased intercultural awareness or competence.
